  • As we mentioned earlier this week, Yeasayer are releasing the Cold Night EP this Friday, which features two versions of the title track: the original off their latest album, Amen & Goodbye, and a “Dirge Version” which you can hear in this new video below. It’s a particularly special song, as band member Anand Wilder explains: “Before we headed upstate in 2014 to flesh out the songs that would become Amen & Goodbye, ‘Cold Night’ sounded like this. Ira (Wolf Tuton, bandmate) had sent me a harmonium-heavy piece of music, and I remember listening to it on an airplane in that heightened emotional state and crying while hearing words about my close friend’s suicide, which at that point was one year prior. I basically just sang words over Ira’s tweaked flutey bass melody for the verses, which is an easy way to get started with a song. I stole the opening line ‘It’s been one year since you turned yourself back into dust’ from the Yoko Ono line ‘Why do I miss you so if you’re just a spec of dust,’ from her mourning song, ‘Spec of Dust.’ (Never heard of the ashes to ashes, dust to dust line, it was all Yoko. Underrated songwriter.)” Listen below. [Under the Radar]

  • Wilco share a fun video today for the track “Someone to Lose” off their most recent LP, Schmilco. Directed by Joseph Baughman, the claymation/multimedia clip features a wedding cake topper trying to avoid a furry monster. It’s pretty fantastic, and the craftsmanship is worth a watch alone, never mind how great the song is. [Consequence of Sound]

  • It’s hard to believe, but DJ Shadow‘s breakthrough LP Endtroducing… celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Tomorrow sees the release of a deluxe reissue for the occasion, titled Endtroducing (20th Anniversary Endtrospective Edition), featuring early demos, alternate takes, live versions, and remixes, like the one we have below. Stream Hudson Mohawke‘s take on “Midnight In A Perfect World” below, a track that inspired KEXP’s series of exclusive DJ mixes. [Stereogum]

  • And, saving the best for last: later tonight on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Run the Jewels team up with the amicable host for a new Halloween song, “The Halloween Wiggle.” It’s sure to be a graveyard smash. Run the Jewels just shared a new track from their forthcoming LP, Run the Jewels 3. No official release date yet, but soon. [Pitchfork]
